In ADX Studio can the same web form be used for create and edit?

Hi Guys,

I am just wondering if you can use the same web form to both create new records and edit existing records?

Looking at the ADX Studio documentation there is mention of an "Allow Create If Null" field on the web form step (community.adxstudio.com/.../load-form-tab-step-type).  But this field does not seem to be available and checking the entity does not seem to exist. We are using the latest ADX 7 version (released in Nov 2016).

Is there another way to configure to use a web form for both edit or create?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim, that option only applies if the record source is for current user.  That would be the only case an edit form would create a new record.  Otherwise you need 2 different forms.  If doing custom code you could potentially overcome this but there is likely value to having the 2 different forms.  They can still utilize the same CRM form so that you don't have to re-create the form layout.

    Hi Tim,

    +1 for Colin's suggestion.

For scenarios where you want to add records and edit records on the same page, it is possible to use a sub grid on a web form step (May not be quite what you after).  A dialog pops open on the same page.

Thanks Colin and Nadeeja for your replies.

How does the record source type "current portal user" work? It was not clear to me from the documentation. Does it mean that if a user does not have a record created for this particular entity then it will create one? It looks for a contactid attribute on the entity? I tried this setting for a webform on support request and got this error (on both create / edit): 'adx_supportrequest' entity doesn't contain attribute with Name = 'contactid'

I think I will need to look at using custom code or as you suggested Colin using 2 different web forms.

    Cheers,

    Tim

@Colin - I did look at custom code and did not find a solution to this problem. But there was business value in having two different forms. We ended up needing slightly different logic based on whether creating or editing.
