How in workflow to send email to address stored in a text field?

CRM 2011 on premise.

When we create a case we enter the email address of the person that reported the issue. We want to create a workflow to email them details of the case.

I want to specify the recipient as the value of the text field holding the email address of the person that reported the issue.

However, CRM will only let me set the recipient as an existing entity, such as the account email address, or the creator email address.

How can I send to the email address in the text field?

    Hi,

You need to allow CRM to send emails for unresolved recipients. You will find this option on Settings > Administration > System Settings > Allow messages with unresolved e-mail recipients to be sent

    hope this helps

Thanks but that doesn't solve the whole problem. I still can't set a Case text field as the recipient.

    Hi,

A workflow can only use records or fields that are committed to the CRM database therefore if this fields is an un-committed field or record you will not be able to use as a recipient for the email your workflow is sending.

Do these people not even exist as contacts within your system?

    Regards

Your first paragraph is hard to understand.

Answer to question: Nope. There's no reason for them to.

    Apologises,

What I meant was, A workflow cannot populate an email with an address which simply resides in an associated form.  That form needs to be saved and the email address field saved as a record somewhere in CRM.  You can then use that field to populate the email to field in your new mail message.

    Regards

Ok, my reply was with regards to your question:

"I want to specify the recipient as the value of the text field holding the email address of the person that reported the issue. However, CRM will only let me set the recipient as an existing entity, such as the account email address, or the creator email address."

it seems that your issue is now slightly different, could you provide more information?

Ok, once the email address is saved in a record (surely you don't mean "as a record") then how can I use it as the recipient?

Issue is the same. Your answer will allow me to hard code a custom email address in the workflow recipient field.

I want to use the value of a text field as the recipient.

Graham, stop suggesting all your replies as answers. It results in this forum spamming me. It's annoying enough that it emails me whenever I add a reply - I don't need two emails whenever you add a reply.

    CJA_INTGRTCH,

I've just tested on my side and yes the recipient of the email, if not hard-coded, dynamically only takes lookup fields/

A workaround for this would be, create a contact (using a workflow) for each UNIQUE email on the text field that you set on the case, this way you could use on the recipient email as a resolved contact.
