Converting a Lead to a Contact

A few of our users would like to be able to convert a lead to a contact only and select an existing potential customer.  However the potential customer option is only available if we are converting to an opportunity as well.  Any thoughts on if this is possble?

If you are wondering we have noticed that alot of our open leads are for existing customers (accounts) and the leads we are trying to convert to a contact are for individuals we don't currently have contact records for.

    Rob,

    Not really.  What you can do is select Contact as the destination type, then select the checkbox to open the newly created records.

    Once the lead has been converted, you can set the Parent Customer field to attach the new contact to the appropriate account.  Not ideal, but it will work.

    Finally, I would take a look at your duplicate detection settings to make sure you can catch duplicates during this process.

    Hi Mitch,

    While i am also doing the same process as described by you,i was just checking my duplicate settings andn the checkboxes were ticked.

    Besides this do i have to create anymore duplicate detection rules(for leads,contacts)?
