CRM Dynamics - what certifications and how to train?

Hi, everybody. I am a freelance consultant/project manager and have been implementing CRM Dynamics since 2011. I have no IT education, but worked as project manager, consultant, trainer, administrator and even basic developer on CRM projects. However, I would like to get certified. My knowledge of CRM is patchy - I know some things in detail, but then I don't know other areas. I want to get certified in order to win more CRM projects and manage CRM work more effectively - sometimes I don't have CRM Developer available, so I want to be able to replace him if required for small jobs.

Could you advice me what certifications I should look at, how I should prepare myself for certification, how long it would take? I have experience with CRM Dynamics 2011, 2015 and 2016 (currently working)

Thanks a lot

    As a project manager I assume you mainly have a functional focus. Therefore the two most obvious certifications are;

    MB2-713 CRM 2016 Sales and MB2-714 CRM 2016 Customer Service. I have given you links below to revision guides I have created for both. These exams are CRM 2016, the one I suggest you focus on. As part of your exam prep I really strongly suggest you get as much hands on use as possible. If you haven't done so already set-up a free CRM online trial. That will give you an environment to experiment in.

    If however you want to go beyond the core production functionality, which it sounds like you want to. You will need to look at MB2-712 which is the customization and configuration exam.

    MB2-712 will not teach you anything about extending CRM with .net plug-ins. (If you decide to go that far!) It will however cover the basic concepts of solutions, managing entities, forms, dashboards, security roles etc etc. Once you start doing this sort of thing you will also need to learn about JavaScript usage within CRM. There isn't a certification that specifically covers coding.

    The certifications will help you but having a go and gaining experience is the most important thing.

    I hope this helps and good luck.

    Though Neil has provided fair explanation, I want to add a few points:

    Usually for exams Microsoft list trainings suitable to an exam preparation on certification details page. These trainings can be online or through partners and are certification focused.

    Pluralsightoffer some courses which are good start point (yet they are not entirely focused on certification preparation). They are good if you decide to go for MB2-712 or MB2-704 (Microsoft Dyanmics CRM Applications which is just a basic user level certification). Best of luck.

    Thank you, Neil and Yawer. Another question - would you know a training provider who can train me for the test? I want some cheap remote training. I want to concentrate on Development side because it is my weakest side.

    Do you work for a partner with access to the Microsoft learning portal? If so, that has some really good videos.

    Failing that try looking at this ...

    www.microsoft.com/.../training.aspx

    Obviously you will also find plenty of training companies offering trainer led courses. But I doubt they would be classed as cheap!

    Thank you all for the replies. Unfortunately, I still feel I am walking in the woods. I found an organisation that may provide me access to their sandbox environment so that I could practice CRM Dynamics configuration/customisation skills. I also saw several books for MS Dynamics 2016 on Amazon. However, where I could get some practice questions? And could you tell me about the format of Microsoft exams - is it a set of questions (if so then how many, is it selecting correct answer from several or free to write, is there a time limit etc.), is it a practical exam (given several tasks and then need to perform in a training environment). Thanks a lot

    Please see Microsoft certification exam details page for the exam which you are planning. You can find details like number of questions, time and division of topics the exam will cover.

    In general one need to select the correct answer. They don't ask for writing details or doing some practical.

    If you do consider the MB2-712 exam then this revision guide might help you;

    neilparkhurst.com/.../mb2-712-certification-microsoft-dynamics-crm-2016-customization-and-configuration-revision-guide

    You can setup a 30-day free CRM trial solution that will help with your prep;

    portal.office.com/.../Signup.aspx;dl=CRMSTANDARD&dl=ENTERPRISEPACK&culture=en-US&country=US&ali=1#0

    All the exams are multiple choice questions.

    Hi, everybody. I got access to Microsoft Virtual Academy and now ready to start training. However, I cannot find the courses for CRM Dynamics such as MB2-713 MB2-714 certifications, I only found introduction to CRM Dynamics 2013. Could you advice me please how to find them or give me a link?

    Thank you very much

    And update - got confused in MS training websites: the actual training is in MS University, not Academy.
