Buyer Separation

Hello Everyone,

I'm attempting to determine the optimal approach for configuring buyer groups within Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.

In the ERP system I previously used, we assigned item groups to all items in the system, and within the item group application, we designated the buyer responsible for that group of items.

In D365, it appears that you need to assign the buyer group to each item individually. Another challenge arises when running MRP: how do you segregate what each buyer is permitted to view and what they cannot?

As you say, Buyer group is set per Item, rather than per Item group. It can also be set per Vendor, which might be useful if your buyers are responsible for different vendors, or if there is a natural fit to different vendors supplying items in different item groups.

One output of MRP is Planned orders. Each planned order has a Buyer group, so it is quite easy to filter the planned order list by Buyer group. If you need to go further, and actually hide the planned orders of other buyers, you could probably do this with security and something called XDS. If you did this, there would be no need to filter the planned order list, since each Buyer would only be able to see their Planned orders in any case.
