How to clear store worksheet status in HQ

Hi,

I am on Microsoft RMS 2.0 and want to delete the store status entries for all the worksheets that have been uploaded, processed etc.  I have over 40k entries for one store and that's about average for my 3 other stores.  The result of this bloated status app is delays in opening the page and retrieving the current status.  Worst of all it takes up space on the DB server(which is low on space)

Is there a way to delete these entries?  Ideally from a certain ref/time number but I don't mind deleting all of them if it's easier.

On a related topic I deleted some entries from the "Event Viewer".  It has a feature to delete plus filter on a time period.  Anyways, I did this and not that entries were truncated but disk space didn't increase much.  I deleted about 3 yrs worth of logs so I expected a significant reallocation of disk space.  Is there something else that needs to happen for the disk space to increase?

Thanks

HQ Admin | File | Connect | put in your password | Database | Delete Completed Worksheets

SQL does not "give back" space previously used.  Depending on how your database was created, you were given an option to grow by a specific size in MB or by percentage.  We recommend that one always uses by size as it does not disrupt if it has to do it in the middle of the day.  20 MB is fine.  If you grow by percentage, a 2GB database needs to grow 200MB, which isn't too bad, but on a slow machine, could take a while.

If you need to shrink the database, one can, but I'll tell you right now, RMS is very efficient in storage and you really don't get back much.  You would have to delete big chunks of data to really see any difference.  The only big chunks are in the Journal, which are pictures of the receipts, but once gone, cannot be reproduced.

As cheap as hard drive are nowadays, replace the drive. ~$150 for 2TB SATA3 drive (Do not use "green" drives as data drives).  If you are having a issue with SQL Express' 4GB database size, upgrade to the free SQL 2k8 R2 Express which has a 10GB limit.   http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26729  (You must be running RMS 2.0.)  All other versions of SQL are not limited in size.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the quality information.

You mentioned at the beginning of your post.

HQ Admin | File | Connect | put in your password | Database | Delete Completed Worksheets

Once I am connected to the DB Is there a SQL statement I should run on a specific table to remove the worksheets?

Upgrading the drive isn't ideal.  The system is very old and configured for Raid 5 so the reconfiguring time isn't worth it for a system that I will dispose of in 4 months.

By the way, what is your company URL?  (I might need some POS consultations)

    Thanks,

    Bryce

No SQL query needed, just follow the instructions I gave  They are all menu options to select.

I don't see the "delete completed worksheet option" for my HQ admin instance.  Are you sure that function existed in version 1.2?

  • Jeff @ Check Point Software Profile Picture

No, it does not exist on 1.2, but your first post said you were on 2.0.  A different poster?

Oh that's a typo.  It should have originally read version 1.2.  Any other ways to purge?  third party tools? SQL ?

If you have access, why are you still running 1.2?

It's a s long story,  but the short of it is we have about a dozen customizations and no vendor(original closed shop) to update them...amongst other things.

We're purchasing completely new POS system during the first part of 2012.  Thinking handhelds...Any input?
