Do the Analysis cubes offer the ability to build something based on the historical aged trial balance?

Posted on by 860

At our company our users tend to use this report a lot and its slow as molasses. Is there way to do this with the analysis cubes?  Ive seen examples of calling a series of stored procedures to get this data, but have not seen anything using SSAS or MDX.

Well, if anyone would have such a report it would be Victoria Yudin. She is one of the best of the best GP people on the planet. If you can pull your data off the production server and do nothing but reporting off another that would be the way to go. The trick will be pulling the transactions by a particular date. There are a lot of dates involved in that report.

Thanks.  Currently I have a stored procedure that basically wraps a few stored procedured (rmHistoricalAgedTrialBalance) in GP to pull the information out and into another Db, then building a report from there is simple.  However, what Im after is whether or not this would still be needed, as the historical aged trial balance will pull the data as-of a specific date.  I'd really like to decommision this custom solution, if this same

fyi, I found an interessting dicussion on another forum that is related.  As you mentioned, it is possible it seems.

Analysis cubes allows you to drill into the data. It is not meant to be a reporting tool with which to build a trial balance of any kind. I would suggest you set up SQL log shipping to another server and have them use that for reporting. You never want user run disk intensive reports on your production server during normal working hours.
