Data uploads and downloads - How do they work?

Greetings everybody,

What has really impressed me about this product is the ability to move data around via the worksheets. And i think this is where RMS really stands out from other products in that it is very easy for one to synchronize the HQ and StoreOperations databases.

I know how to set up the synchronization model (using the HQTableSync in the HQ database), but I am really curious as to how exactly data uploads and downloads happen. I think this is to all software developers out there that may have managed to replicate some similar functionality even in other projects outside the retail realm.
