How to create a field where you can select multiple values?

I need to create a field where multiple values can be selected and that these values can exported to excel.  It looks like Option Sets only let you select one value per field.

The only way I can think of is creating a Lookup field but this means I'd have to create a new entity so I'm a little worried it could be messy and perhaps not export nicely?

Is there any other way to create a multiple value select field?

    Hi,

You can convert option set to multi-select checkbox list.

You could probably explore how advanced find stores the search value for lookup in fetchxml. How about create a web resource for the multiple select field and store the selected value in a XML kind of data in another text field?

Thanks for the suggestions.. this sounds a bit like coding beyond what's out of the box though right? Would creating a lookup field work?

you can use an N:N relationship with a custom entity

Would I be able to options which are selected to an Excel without any issue? They are technically records in a custom entity instead of values correct?

Just want to make sure that if I create a new entity and use a look up that I can still export the values to excel without any issue. Since it's a look up it will technically be records that's selected..

Of course you can still export the values to Excel. But bear in mind that you won't be able to add the fields that are beyond 2 levels of relationship.

I created the custom entity and then created a N:N relationship on this entity.

I then went to the entity where I want the field to be and created a lookup field. It's only allowing me to choose one record at a time though.

Does anyone know how I can allow to choose multiple records through this lookup field?

How exactly do you want the values to appear when you export to Excel?

If it's just Option 1="Yes", Option 2="No" etc. then you could just create a series of yes/no fields with one for each option. These could then be placed on the form as a list of check boxes.

You can look up multiple records by using a sub-grid on the form, but this won't allow you to export that information since the view has no way of knowing which relationship you're looking for.

Another option would be to create multiple lookup fields for your entity. You could apply business rules to the form that don't display the next lookup field unless the previous one contains data to keep things clean. You'd then need to add all of those relationships to your view.

Ideally if it was one field where you can select multiple values that would work best so it doesn't clutter the page. But if that can't happen out of the box then I guess I may have to go the check box way.

I could have sworn Ive seen look up fields where you can select multiple values though..
