Report Request Page Extension

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello Experts,

I have extended and created custom Sales Invoice Reports with different layouts. Since there is different custom reports for Sales Invoice it is not sufficient to make it one as default report selection. In our business scenario these different reports needs to be printed for a Sales Invoice when it is posted. So that I would like to have a drop down to select desired Report ID in the Report Request Page and for users this will make handy to select different Report ID & run from single window for same sales invoice .See the below screen shot for the expectation.

    Hi, just adding some info.

For now, you can do following thing.

Select a report layout before printing

    https://yzhums.com/25943/

    And in next major version:

Choose the report layout on request page

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2022wave2/smb/dynamics365-business-central/users-choose-report-layout-request-page

Hope this info helps as well.

    Thanks.

    ZHU

    Hi Inge M. Bruvik,

Totally agree with you. I could to select the three different desired report ID's in "Report Selection - Sales" screen and these report layouts are getting printed as per defined sequence for Posted Sales Invoices.

Thank you for your time and advice.

    Best Regards,

    Ranjith

    Well,

You know your own business best. But i guess there has to be something with the sales order that the user looks at when they decide if they should run report A,BC or report D,E,F during or after post.

Your approach is doable but in my eyes it is not following the "BC way" of doing things.  But that does not mean that it is necessarily wrong.

When i customize Business Central i try to make the solution as close as possible to other similar functions is the standard system.

And you already have the Sales Report selection where you can select different reports printed when you print an invoice. You can also define document setup pr. customer.

But then again - you know your business best.

    Hi Inge M. Bruvik,

Thanks for sharing your thought. In our scenario we cannot determine the Report based on the order type, we need to print 3 reports for all Sales Invoices. So that it is easy for user if having a drop down in Report Request Page to select Report and print, instead of going to Report Layout screen.

    Best Regards,

My initial thought around this is that i would do something like this.

Add a field on the sales order where you can select the "report need" and then have a related table where the different reports needed for this type of sale set up.

Then i would write some code that automatically printed / email the report(s) defined in the "report need" for this type of sales.

End users usually have a hard time relating to report id but a category for what reports are needed is easier to relate to.

    Just my thoughts around this.
