Upgrade Dynamics GP 10 from SP2 to SP5

Posted on by 245

Is it possible to update MS Dynamics GP 10 Server from SP2 to SP5?  What are some of the pitfalls and concerns that may befall the upgrade? Will I need to update the client software as well?  I am using Integration Manager, FRx Reporter 6.7 SP10, and Nolan Intercompany 10 on the client computers.

I know that the software is old, but I'm cobbling the server along until it is replaced later this year or early next year.  Knowing that, would you recommend against upgrading at all and not worry about it?

    Does GP 10.0 sp5 support SQl 2008?

Yes Jason I would recommend you do a brand new install using SP5 installation media which yes is available.

I tried to uninstall the instance that i have but they produce the error Dpecified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: generic Path. This was my  attempt to try and re-install.

Are you suggesting I download the GP 10 SP5 version (if available) and do a fresh install on a new machine?

These errors mean the GP install is damaged or corrupted. Have you tried to install a new instance using the SP 5 install media?

When I run a repair or uninstall on GP 10 I am getting Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: generic Path

I have GP 10 installed on a WS 2008 R2 and I have the app deployed as a remoteapp on my TS.

We are currently running GP 10 (10.00.1129). I am tring to upgrade to SP5 then to eventually upgrade to 2010 due to the GP 10 not being supported. I am running into error: " the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different..." I traced error and i needed to update my Dexterity component which i did. SP5 still didn't install. Any ideas? Please help

Richard is correct. However Richard GP 10 will not be unsupported we simply will not be making any further fixes to bugs or releasing year end updates. You can still receive support for GP 10 until 2017. However I would also recommend that you do upgrade to GP 2010.

This is the latest service pack for GP 10. SP5(10.00.1841). GP 10 is not that old. Make sure you read the service pack guide, do your backups, update your report dictionaries and then proceed to upgrade all of your workstations. You may want to upgrade IM as well. I do not know about Nolan but it would not hurt to get there latest release for GP 10. GP 10 will become unsupported in January of 2013. So you may want to upgrade to GP 2010 now.
