Chart of accounts sharing in AX 2012

I am new to AX2012 as I'm sure many folks are, and I'm very impressed with some of the functionality in the new version.  Especially around intercompany.

But I'm struggling to accommodate what must be a common client requirement.  My client has 13 legal entities and wants to have a global chart of accounts with 80% global and 20% local for company-specific needs.  This I can accommodate easily using shared chart of accounts, and the company-specific flag Suspended.

The next requirement is to have legal-entity specific financial dimension rules.  Account structures can be used for financial dimension rules, but when I apply them to the Chart of Accounts I realize that they have to be global account structures, not local (company specific).  I can't have a rule such as "in company 1, business unit is required on all transactions, but that's not required in company 2"

There must be something I'm missing here.  The central issue is that the main accounts are not really global in nature, they are tied to a chart of accounts.

The only way I can figure to accommodate this is importing multiple main accounts for each legal entity and from that building charts of account that have company-specific account structures.

Any guidance is appreciated.

This kind of a setup was not possible in ax 2012 versions prior to R2. This issue is addressed in R2 version. Account structures are no longer tied to COA. While creating a ledger for a specific company, you now have the ability to select which Chart of Account and which account structures to use.

    Hi Judy,

we are having the same challenge as we aim to implement a Global COA as part of our AX 2012 ERP solution.  I was wondering if you have had any final solution on this situation, or if you could share with me how you best solved this.

Thanks. We used the advanced rule structure, setup legal entity as part of financial dimension and restrict other dimensions base on legal entity. Is that the same approach? If yes, thanks for letting me know. If not, I'm interested to know, how can I contact you directly then?

In "Advanced Chart of Accounts Structure" you can restrict entry to unwanted dimensions per each account. If you still have this problem contact me and I'll explain you how (it is too long to do it here).

Hi - no I heard nothing back from anyone.  I've determined the best course of action is to duplicate the COA for each legal entity with different dimension requirements (account structures).  Sorry for the delayed response.  Cheers

Hi Just wonder if someone have answered to your query offline as I have thesame client requirement as yours. I am thinking of thesame approach but it will duplicate the Chart of Accounts for global COA. Thank you.
