EFT for Payables

We are trying to setup EFT for Payables for one vendor. The bank is telling us we will need a EDI 820 file.

Does anyone know how to setup and EDI 820 file in GP?

 Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Joe

    Hi Joe,

Do you already use EFT for Payables? and are you just setting up a new vendor? o are you new to EFT?

The EDI 820 file is the EFT File Layout specification. The file you send to the bank for processing must be in this format before the bank can accept it. You will need to get the File Layout Specification from your bank and build the file format in GP using this spec. as a guide.

If you are technically minded you should be able to do this. The File definition module in GP is very good and bar a few things that you can only learn from experience, its very straighforward.

This is primarily a US module so the standard US EFT file formats come pre installed. In Europe you have to define the files yourself, but as I said its all there in GP...just need to design it. In rare cases, you might need to develop your own module to create the file in the required format....but these are very rare, GP generally handles it no problem.

If you're having difficulties email me.

I really appreciate the information.  This is the first time we are setting it up.

So would this be a user defined EFT file format type in GP?  And I would then need to build it based upon the specs sent to me from the bank?  Do you now if there is a way to import the file format?

Thank you, I really appreciate the information!  The bank has not been very helpful.

    Hi Joe,

Thats exactly it. Your bank uses a certain format and you have to get GP to output in that format.

I don't see the EDI file mentioned in the available formats in GP...so you're going to have to create it ( Cards >> Financial >> EFT File Format.

If someone else has created a custom file format for your specific EDI File layout, they can export it to a file, send it to you, and you can import it into your system from that file.

Maybe put up a new post and ask the question? you never know.

Are you based in the US or Europe?...or somewhere else?...Just interested in where the EDI format you mention is used...Always thought it was US...If it is, chances are you'll fine another user has already created it and might share.

Post again here if you need any help tackling the file yourself.

    Best regards,

    Hi Joe,

Did you ever find anyone with your EFT file format? or did you develop your own?

Another user, Galina, asked a similar question (Setting up CTX file for EFT). I'm thinking we should organise an area where anyone who completes an EFT file format that is not loaded with GP, can post the export for others to download. I have some for the Irish / European banks.

Anyway, just wondeing if you ever got sorted, and if you'd be willing to share your file layout if you got it done.

    Best regards,

     Hi Ian,

We will dealing with some of the eurpoean bank (Belgium - Fortis) and would like to understand more about EFT for the European banks.

For our north american companies we use EDI 820 for file transfers.

    We use SAP ERP.

Do you know what format is used for Fortis and if you have a file format for that.

     Thanks a bunch in advance.

    Mukesh

    Hi Mukesh,

I don't have a format for Fortis, but it is only a matter of creating the format in Microsoft Dynamics GP and sending a test file to the bank...Most European EFT formats are similar, and the Dynamics GP EFT functionality handles every file type I've created so far...however, you say you use another ERP product?

This forum is for Microsoft Dynamics GP and the File Format creation utility is specifically part of the Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP system functionality. If you are using Microsoft Dynamics GP, then I would be delighted to assist you. Unfortunately I can't assist with other ERP products.

    Hope this helps, best regards.

We've also been told to setup EFT for Payables for one of our vendors.  This is our first attempt at setting up EFT Banking in GP10..

Is EFT Banking an option that needs to be purchased as a separate module?  Our contracted support group has told us that we need to purchase a new set of registration keys in order to have the capacity to produce EFT text files.  Can anyone confirm this?

Hi, it depends on what licence model you are on, and where geographically you purchased your GP licence.

In terms of your geographic location....As far as I know, EFT for Payables is only available for US based licences (ie not available in EMEA or APAC - although in my experience the module is perfectly suited for European banks). However you can ask Microsoft to make a special exception in your case if you are outside the US, and see how you get on. There was talk at some stage of making all GP modules available worldwide, but I don't know if this was ever finalised.

In terms of your licence model...

If you are on the old Module Based Licencing then EFT for Payables is available as an add on module, ie you pay extra and get a new set of licence keys.

If you are on Business Ready Licencing then there are two possibilities:

    • If you have a 'Business Essentials' licence, EFT for Payables has to be purchased extra. Therefore you will need to purchase the module and receive a new set of registration keys.
    • If you have the 'Advanced Management' licence, EFT for Payables is included already and you don't have to purchase it as an extra. Your current licence keys should give you access to it once it is installed.

Your Dynamics GP Partner should be able to advise you what licence model you are on.

Hope this explains. If you need any further info, post again or PM me.

    Ian,

Can you tell me if the area for sharing file formats has been created?  I also would like to use CTX format.

    Thank you!

    Hi Dan,

Never done, due to lack of interest!!.... I still think its a good idea however.

If you get the CTX format completed and working, let me know and you can be the first to make your format available!

    Best regards,
