Server Failure 131 and other problems

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We set up a two station POS system for seasonal retail. Station 1 houses the database and acts as a register 1. Station 2 acts only as register 2. For 2 weeks the system worked fine. Three days ago we printed an X-Report in the middle of a shift and it showed purchases that we couldn't account for. We chalked it up to operator error. The next day Station 2 's opening amount was set to $150. An X-report in the middle of that shift confirms this. At the end of that shift a Z-report was generated and not only did it show money and purchases we couldn't account for, it also displayed the opening amount as $300 not $150. I am sure it was not operator error. Today, I attempted to duplicate the problem in order to troubleshoot. First we entered a opening amount of $150 on register 2. We then printed an X-report and the opening amount was correct. Next we printed a Z-report and automatically the phantom $300 opening amount appeared. We the attempted to open Manager on the same station/register 2 and got the following error : Server failure 131: A server failure occurred while attempting to read the current batch. I've checked the tender types and there are no duplicates and I have also assigned registers to each others station and nothing works. We only have two batches open, register 1 and register 2. Right now register 1 is fully operational and functional and station 2 can't open Store Manager and it's opening amount won't stay at $150, it keeps doubling to $300. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just had a franchise owner report the same error. I discovered that he had messed around with the Tender Types data. As a result Opening amounts etc could not be entered. As it turns out he had placed a "0" in the Tender Type sort order (don't ask, I have no idea why someone would do that). As soon as I modified the list and performed Blind Close --> Z-Report on both registers everything started working again.  Just my .25.

    Cheers,

    Craig

Make sure you register numbers are unique.  Open SO Admin.  Goto File - >Configuration -> Register tab.

Make sure station 1 is setup to 1 and the other is setup as 2.
