Export CSV from D365 F&O with UTF-8 BOM and Double Quote Text Qualifier

Hi everyone,

I have a requirement to export certain entities from Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations in CSV format, with the following specifications:

  •

Encoding: UTF-8 with BOM (Byte Order Mark)

  •

Text Qualifier: Double quotes (") around all fields

  •

Escaping: Any embedded double quotes within a field should be escaped by doubling them ("")

  •

This is needed to ensure fields don’t split into separate columns during processing by an external system (Esker integration).

  •
  •

Question:

Can D365 F&O export files in this exact format directly via the Data Management framework, or is post-processing required to meet these specifications?

Appreciate any insights or best practices you’ve used for similar scenarios.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi RJ-22061207-0,

You can use the standard csv file format for exporting certain entities.

    It should address the requirements:
    1. Text qualifier with " around all the fields is possible with CSV-Unicode.
    2. UTF-8 with byte encode characters is possible with CSV-unicode as your file format.

You can use the standard CSV-Unicode: Comma seperated (Unicode) as the source data format while exporting the entity.

However, for escape sequences (""), you will require X++ code for handling double quote "" characters.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.

    Hi,

Does it have to be UTF-8 with BOM? I don't see standard support for that. If it is required, you will need an extra customization step to create a UTF-8 with BOM file and copy the data to the new file.

    Hi RJ-22061207-0,

Alternatively, you can consider using Electronic reporting because ER has the ability to identify UTF-8 with byte order marks. Used this in one of the reports in the past to generate data in UTF-8 mode with BOM.

Also, check for flight DMFDisableDoubleByteCharacterExport, based on your requirement if you are planning to use Data management framework to address this requirement.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.
