Receive a message “Document Number link isn’t available for unposted inventory transactions” when I try to open ADJXXX document number using the serial/lot trace Inquiry window. I am unable to find this document on the inventory open batches.

What Version of GP are you running?
Some older Versions (like 9 and earlier) required users to check a box in the batch information window for inventory batches or they would not completely post. And data would be lost. Like this.
try to perform utilities inventory reconcile.
