Copying data to another field

Hi Guys,

I have around 10,000 contact record in my on-site CRM 2013 system.

These contacts have a 'line of text' field called 'job role'. I have created another field called 'job role new' which is an 'option group' field.

I am looking for some ideas for the best way to copy the data from the 'job role' field into the 'job role new' field. The 'job role new' field has 14 different options for a user to select from and all the data which is currently in the 'job role' field matches one of these 14 options.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

select all records which equal a job title using advance find . add two fields to display on you result (using add columns button)

for example you select all the records jobtitle = "Manager" then select all records and click Edit (this is bulk edit ) just  set the matching job title on your new field.

    then save.

your new field need to be in form

you need to do this 14 times for your 14 different text

or you can write a little script using sdk to update

Use the advanced find where you can limit the column you want to export.

Below post provides all the steps needed to export with "Re-import" option selected

    Hi,

Thanks for the speedy reply. What is the best way to export the data, would it be advanced find? Also how do I export export with the option "re-import checked". By doing it this way will the data be appended when it is re imported rather than creating new records?

    Many thanks

export the data from crm with only those two column in view ,with option "Re-import" checked. Update the optionset field value based on the name in excel and re-import the record into the system.this will be quick and easy way to update values in bulk
