Drag and drop functionality from Browser

Hi everyone

For AX 2012 R2, it is possible to drag files from File Explorer and drop them into forms and process them from there.

There are several articles that help with this like: https://microsoftdynamicsax2012r2.blogspot.com/2015/07/easy-drag-and-drop-files-document.html among others

But it only seems to work when dragged from File Explorer. You can't drag files from Browsers, from sites like OneDrive. I did a little debugging to see what sort of objects the functionally accepts, but processing doesn't even get that far. It just forbids objects coming from other sources.

Does anyone know whether drag/drop functionality into AX 2012 forms is possible from sources like browsers?

Tx

    Hi BrandonSA,

I think you should have customization and by default this is not exist. below link give you idea to do this.

Maybe you could try to create a custom managed control supporting content dropping.

Unfortunately I've never tried it, therefore I can't even confirm that it's doable. But if it, it'll give you a much better controls over its behavior.

    Hello BrandonSA,

As far as I know this needs a customization. What is the use case that you have that makes you need this drag&drop import feature?

Do you have plans to migrate to D365FO in the near term? There you get a new 'react' grid that allows you copying & pasting data for example from excel into forms. It is, however, also not a drag&drop experience but comes close. Might be a good point to raise an idea with MS to bring such a feature into the standard application?!

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
