Multiple record edit one field to be blank?

The import from my previous database carried some data into incorrect fields that I now need to blank out.  Doing a mass edit doesn't work because CRM is looking for a "change" to the records to be made.  I can input a period "." into the field so that all records show the period but still can't force the field to be blank.  

 

Any ideas/recommendations?  Thank you

    Tad,

    I am thinking outloud a little here but why not try an export using the re-import option with the problem field in a column and the problem records selected for export. Edit the fields in Excel and 'blank' them out. Then re-import the data.

    I think that could work.

    You could write a temporary workflow to clear selected fields. Write a simple workflow to "Update Record." Inside the editor, select the fields you would like to clear and select "Clear" from the Operator drop down menu. Save the workflow as "On Demand" and then run it on the records you would like to update. Remember to go back and deactivate it once you are finished.

    Jerry, wouldn't this cause duplicate records when I re-import?

    TNJ_CRM_Team, corporate has disabled ability for end users to run workflow.  Apparently it messes up things when they push updates to us.

    Tad,

    The export to Excel for re-import will do a insert update on the re-import, it will update the records you exported and will not create new records.. The advantage of this approach vs using workflow is that you will be able quickly update more than 250 records at a time - as many as 10,000.

    That doesn't work. If you blank out data and re-import it ignores the blank fields and leaves the old data there. Also tried putting in 0 and NULL instead neither works.
