Multiple Line Purchase Orders

We are currently in the process from migrating from MYOB to Dynamics Business Central.

With regards to purchase orders which are raised for the year for quarterly transactions we have the option to raise a PO with four lines - one for each quarter.  Or raise an individual PO for each quarterly transactions.

From a reporting and general admin and reporting point of view what are the key considerations and which is the better option.

I have the same question (0)

    RE: Multiple Line Purchase Orders

Hey Thanks for the response.  The internal process will mean that regardless of which option chosen the required quarterly PO's will be raised at the time of commissioning even though it may be in final quarter.  We will used expected delivery dates to manage.

    RE: Multiple Line Purchase Orders

    Hi,

You can use both the option that you mentioned.

But If you create one PO with four lines then your PO will be open for whole year.

So its better to Create the Separate PO for each quarter and you post that PO by end of that quarter. By this your PO would not be kept as open for whole year.

    RE: Multiple Line Purchase Orders

What is familiar is logical here. No critical impact either way. Management of dates can happen on header or line level with the “Expected Receipt Date”. Another option which might be applicable is blanket purchase orders. You can create each line  for the required quarters and then create singular PO’s once ready for that quarter. Depends how realistic the outstanding purchase order list needs to be.
