Changing Fixed Asset Class ID

To change Class ID, the only way I have found so far is to:

1) look up the asset in GP > Financial > Cards > Fixed Assets : General.

2) Change the Class ID and click [Save].

3) A popup will appear for Reset Asset Class ID. The options there will reset the asset's depreciation if Propagate is selected. Note: Redoing the depreciation may not post to the correct accounts (ie. reversals of past depreciation post to the new class ID and not the old one). Not selecting anything will not post anything (for GL posting routine), but may also mess up amortization in the future (I'm not sure).

4) Run GL Posting routine if depreciation was adjusted.

- Is there a better way to change the Asset Class ID? Why does recalculating depr for the asset's life post to the new class ID?

- Does anyone know the effect of changing the Class ID but not propagating anything in the Reset Asset Class ID window?

I was having difficulty with this and did some researching on Transferring the asset. I found that the Transfer action does not change the Class ID field. You can look up the fields it affects in Dynamics GP Help (F1) for the Transfer Maintenance Window > Fields.

Thanks,

Cham

I would delete the asset and set it up again with the correct Class ID.

Also, I found that this does not move the cost of the asset, which is a problem. The cost is still recorded under the old asset class account (when checking Financial Detail Inquiry). How can this be corrected in the asset module? The GL side is okay.
