Case similarity rule and what happens when you link a case

Hi all,

Quick question. So I'm trying to link cases together. Noticed that there is a similar case section and a link case button to link cases together.

My question would be what does the Link button do when you link a case suggested by the similarity rule?

Also if I wanted to link them programmatically via javascript how would I go about doing it? Is it something to do with connections?
