How to Identify Forms/Reports just opened in Modifier/Report Writer Vs Actually Modified

Hi,

Can someone please tell me is there a clear method to identify if the Forms/Reports were just opened in Modifier/Report Writer and left undeleted Or has been Actually Modified.

For eg: To identify a change in a 3rd Party Form, I used to Export the modified version(package file) from GP,  and then Merge the 3rd Party and Dynamics dictionary and export the form(form object). And then use some File Comparison Tool to identify the changes, but it's slightly vague. Is there any other way?

Thanks,

Jothikrishnan

I export the modified first, then go and do the delete/replace. Switch back to GP, export the 'original' and import the modified to get me back to where I started. I don't copy the dictionaries. The only hitch is that you cannot import if you are using shared dictionaries. When I'm doing this kind of work, I copy the .dic files to my local. I never modify production without testing it first.

    Hi Leslie,

Thank you very much! how do you create package file of the "original" version. Is it like you will have to move/backup the existing modified form dictionary and keep it aside. and then delete the modified form and reopen the same and just save it without changes. And then export it again?

    Hi Jothikrishnan,

What I have done is create a package file of the 'modified' version (using customization maintenance) and then creating a package file of the original version and compare the two text files. I do it often because so many times someone looks at the report or window in RW/Modifier, but doesn't actually change it.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
