CRM error - domain logon exists but it can't be found in the DB

We attempted to create a user in CRM 4.0 and it failed.  Unfortunately, we don't have the original error message.

We can not find a user with that domain name via advanced find searching both active and inactive records.

I have also searched the domainname field in the systemuserbase table for the specific login name without success.

But whenever we attempt to create this user in CRM we receive the following error:

"You are attempting to create a user with a domain name logon that is already used by another user.  Select another domain logon and try again."

Any thoughts on why CRM thinks this user already exists?

    Hi Nathan,

Did you by any chance rename a user in AD to create the new user? Each AD user has a unique id that is stored by CRM to identify the user uniquely. You perhaps receive this error because the unique id has already been stored in CRM against another user.

Try to create a new user in AD and check if you are able to add this user to CRM.

    Hope this helps!

    Sam, thanks for the reply.

The team that creates the AD accounts has given me the GUID of the person in question and it could not be found in the ActivedirectoryGuid field in the systemuserbase table.  I was able to successfully find the GUID for my AD account in the table so I believe I have the correct data.

Also, we have successfully added many new users to CRM since CRM crashed during the creation of the user in question.  It is just this one AD account that is giving us trouble.

Hi, Was this issue resolved for you? i am now receiving the same problem but with at least 3 different accounts.

When I try to add an AD user into CRM 4.0 I  get the following error: "the following user exists and was not added: Full name  (Domain\login)

I cannot find the ActiveDirectoryGUID's for these users in the database.

    How did you resolve this?

We ended up calling Microsoft.  They have a tool they can run on your system that can clean up users that have had issues during the creation or deletion process.

Yes I ended up calling them too. It was a quick fix in the end. It looks as if only half the user is created in the database. There are no AD GUID's recorded which was why I could not locate the users in the database, however I think you could easily find which logins are affected by running a simple SELECT statement to find all user records where AD GUID's are NULL, since all users should have this value set.

I am still working with the client to establish what steps were taken to reproduce this behaviour.  I think they receive it when entering a user through the single user step. I have suggested using the MULTI-User setup method to see if it works better.

Did Microsoft give you the tool or run it remotely?  I've read enough posts about this I'd like to just clean up the DB.

Was there a charge for the support ticket?

MS gave me the tool. Were you able to resolve this? I could stick it on Dropbox for you if you'd like?

I can't tell you why it thinks the login exists, but I can tell you I had this same issue and MS provided a tool CrmUserChecker_v3.exe (I am CRM4 ru18) that will search for the discrepancy and correct it.  Search for that tool

I've shared the tool here dl.dropbox.com/.../CrmUserChecker_v3.zip

extract to your server and run from there.
