Reverse a Posted purchase invoice only, not the receipt

Hi All
A client on mine made a big mistake and did not block the end date resulting in staff processing a huge amount of Purchase invoices in December 2025 instead of 2024. They are setup to use expected costing.

The receipt was correctly done in Dev 2024, only the posted invoice is incorrect.

Is there a way to ONLY reverse the posted invoice and all related entries without taking the stock out. and only reprocessing the invoice at the correct date?

Hope to hear from someone soon. They are using the correct function at this point, but this obviously reverses the stock qty as well, and the issue I have here is that the stock qty is reversed as at December 2025.

Hope to hear from someone soonest.

Debbie

Yes, it's possible. I wrote a blog post about it here how to use a credit memo with an item charge to do so. You can then apply the credit memo to the posted invoice. When you want to post the actual invoice, you'll have to create a new invoice with item charges again.

You can also clear the invoice by creating a credit memo journal entry against a GL account applied to the invoice and then issuing a new, corrected invoice against the same GL account. While this approach is work, it has potential drawbacks: it does not generate invoices or credit memos for the audit trail if its something you require, and if you use expected cost posting and the cost changes between receipt and invoicing, you lose the ability to adjust the item cost.
