Upgrade Path - GP10 to GP2013 R2?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Having returned from the Summit and liking the new R2 features: We upgraded GP10 SP5 to GP2013 SP1 into a test server some time ago and everything checks out with UAT. If I update the GP2013 code to R2 can I still forklift in the GP10 SP5 data, or do I have to upgrade to GP2013 SP1 first, then update to R2?

Thank, Bill

    Hi MDG

Before you even think about upgrading the acquired company and putting it in your existing environment, you will need to check a number of things such as:

SQL sort order that the acquired company is on vs. your SQL sort order (remember that many early installs of GP used Binary Sort as that was the only one available at that time).

Account Format used in the two systems.

If using multicurrency, the Currency ID's used in the two systems.

You should discuss options with your GP partner on how best to resolve this.

Here is the line for GP 10 SP5.

We recently purchased a company running GP 10.00.1579 and need to get them into our existing GP 2013 environment.  Where can I get a version of 10.00.1779 to upgrade them to so I can get them to 2013?

You can go directly from GP 10.00.1779 directly to GP 2013 R2. That's the minimum version of GP 10.0 that will upgrade directly to GP 2013.  You can run the R2 update to your current test server and it will upgrade that existing data from GP 2013 SP1 to R2 or you can do a fresh installation of GP 2013 R2 and run the test upgrade process again from GP 10.00.1779 or later, which I would recommend.
