AX 2012-Posting Invoice from Sales Order doesn't pick from inventory

I have recently discovered that on a Sales Order, users are able to generate/post a Sales Order Invoice without having to do the Confirmation or Pick/Pack. The consequence of this is that when viewing 'Inventory Transactions' on the Item that was sold, the 'sale' transaction does not appear. It would seem that posting the Invoice does not relieve inventory and not post cogs. The sales order 'status' and line 'status' show as invoiced and does not show as pick or ship pending.

This was not always the situation. Previously, a user was required to Confirm and Pick/Pack the Sales Order for generate Invoice to be available. If the transaction was not completed in this process, then the Invoice icon was not accessible. I have not been able to determine when or why the change has occurred.

Has anyone experienced this in 2012? What could cause the change to occur; a setting or parameter that was changed?  I think it is unlikely any settings were changed but at this point would be very grateful is someone could help us get the parameters set correctly so this cannot occur again.

Thanks so much for any help!

Please note that on the invoice form if quantity field selected as "ALL", one can post sales invoice and inventory transactions is already created as you create a sales order, when it is invoiced the status changes to Sold. So inventory is deducted.
