the license assignments happens in D365FO

    From the licensing guide:

“Store Manager Device” means one device located in the Commerce Location, used by any

individual, dedicated to performing the following tasks solely for that Commerce Location (i)

managing and replenishing inventory, (ii) balancing cash registers and processing daily receipts,

(iii) configuring and maintaining menu options displayed by the ISV Devices, (iv) purchasing

supplies and services required to run the Commerce Location operations, (v) managing

Commerce Location staff, (vi) processing reports required to analyze and manage Commerce

Location results, and (vii) managing master data related to Commerce Location operations."

    see if this helps

    Hi Andreu,

Currently, there is no direct link between a device and the license for the warehousing app. You have to be compliant with the number of licenses. In the future, Microsoft might change some features where you then have to register the devices.

    Hi André,

One of my costumer purchased 52 Dynamics 365 Device licenses but in the Admin portal O365 not showing , only its possible mange licenses type Dynamics 365 SCM and similars that will be asign AD users.

However , in the LCS customer environment , in subscriptions blade , I see a subscriptions with this detail "Commerce device user count... 52 units"

My question it is very simple ,  the Dynamics 365FO license type Device are managed by Admin O365 Portal ?  Yes or No.

If yes , what is the procedure  , step by step , for assign this type license to device (for example PDA) ?

I add that yesterday a Dynamics 365 support agent called me and explained that the procedure is

    1. Enroll devices in Azure AD
    2. Created new Group in Azure AD with all devices
    3. Assign Dynamics 365 Device to Group

    Somebody follow this instructions ?

if No ,  its possible what Dynamics 365 Device licenses only needs to assign device role in Dynamics Admin SMC to App User ?

    I´m waiting your comments

    My regards

    Hi Andreu,

The device licenses are not visible in the admin portal as in this portal, you can't register devices. It is used to assign licenses to users. So the answer is: "No, the device licenses are not managed by Admin O365 portal". There is also no other option. Like mentioned above, there is no assignment today. You only need to be sure that you don't exceed the number of devices to stay compliant with the license.

Hi André !! first thanks for your support !!!!! I and my co-workers and developer Team not found any documentation in Microsoft Dynamics 365 website and forum about how manage Dynamics 365 Device licenses.

Four your words , Dynamics 365 licenses type Device it is like that Sql Server license where not necessary manage his installation or activation , only its necessary not exceed licenses conditions.

So , customer admins IT can deploy in Admin SCM Dynamics 365 a various users to use how device in warehouse and not necessary associated AD users.

For this reason , my customer will be use more that 52 devices in time because Dynamics 365 not supervised but if Microsoft will be audit their infrastructure its possible to sanctioned.

    Its correct ?

    My regards

    Hi Andreu,

This is correct. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft will come with a license check in the future. Today, indeed you can use e.g. 55 devices at the same time without being blocked, but it would be possible to find out that it happened. In that case, after an audit, the customer can be held liable. As now the users needs to be assigned to a license which was also based on trust before, I think a next step would be a check on devices.

Hello, I apologize I am jumping in on this old thread, but we have the same issue with a customer - we are a CSP Direct partner, we purchased 50 Operations Device licenses for one of our customers, but these licenses are not showing up on our LCS project and they're not showing up on the Office 365 Admin Portal for the customer either.  We're having a hard time explaining to the customer that the licensed have actually been purchased when they're not visible anywhere. My question is - how do we activate these 50 device licenses, what is the process step by step, any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Jovana,

Like mentioned above, there is no link between a device and the license. The situation as described above is still valid today.

Probably reach out to Microsoft and ask your question directly to them.

    Hi everyone,

We also have a customer with the same situation and since the last post on this matter was almost a year ago, do anyone  know if there has been any change in the procedure to assign the Dyn365 Operations Device licenses?

    Kr and thanks in advance.
