Production floor execution - multiple operations per job showing at once

Hi there,

We are using production floor execution but are having issues with the number of jobs available to start at each work space on releasing of jobs.

We are a manufacturing company and have setup our production orders to have a fabrication operation, painting operation and assembly operation within the single order. These are tied to different resource groups and routes.

The issue we are facing is that when we release a production order, each operation for that order is available to start at each work station. We would expect that the production order would only be available to be started at the first operation per the route and then become available to start the next operations once the previous has been completed. Is it possible to change settings so that when a production order is released it will only show at the fabrication operation and not be shown on the other operation workstations until the previous operation has been completed and ended?

Currently when a production order is released the corresponding production order operations show as work to be completed on all of the workstations, regardless if the previous operation has been completed or not. This is causing a large amount of production orders available to be started when the work shouldn't be showing as needing to be started.

Thanks
Lachie

Production floor execution - multiple operations per job showing at once
Hi there! Good morning, evening, or afternoon - depending on where you are :) Hope you are well today!

This issue arises because the system is not enforcing the sequential execution of operations as defined in the production route. By default, Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management allows all operations in a production order to appear as available for processing, regardless of their sequence. To address this, you can configure the system to enforce operation sequencing. Here's how:

    1. Enable Job Scheduling
    • Ensure that Job Scheduling is enabled for your production orders instead of Operations Scheduling. Job Scheduling provides more granular control over the sequence of operations.
    • Navigate to Production control > Setup > Scheduling > Scheduling parameters and set the default scheduling method to Job Scheduling.
    2. Set Up Route Dependencies
    • Verify that the routes for your production orders are correctly configured with dependencies between operations.
    • In the Route setup, ensure that the Next Operation field is correctly defined for each operation. This ensures that subsequent operations cannot start until the previous one is completed.
    3. Configure Production Floor Execution Filters
    • Use the Production Floor Execution Configuration to filter jobs displayed at each workstation:
      • Navigate to Production control > Setup > Production floor execution > Configure production floor execution.
      • Set up job filters for each workstation to display only jobs that are ready to start based on their operation status.
    4. Enable Operation Sequencing
    • Turn on the Operation Sequencing feature in Feature Management:
      • Go to System administration > Feature management.
      • Search for Operation Sequencing and enable it.
    • This feature ensures that operations are processed in the correct sequence, and subsequent operations are not available until the preceding ones are completed.
    5. Test the Configuration
    • Release a production order and verify that only the first operation (e.g., Fabrication) appears as available at the corresponding workstation.
    • Complete the first operation and check that the next operation (e.g., Painting) becomes available only after the first is marked as completed.
    6. Train Shop Floor Workers
    • Ensure that workers on the shop floor understand the new process and know how to mark operations as completed in the Production Floor Execution interface.

By implementing these changes, you can ensure that operations are displayed sequentially, reducing confusion and improving workflow efficiency.
