Offsite SQL Server Connection Problems

We have a client that moved their SQL server to an offsite data center and now they are having connection problems with their workstation clients.  We recommended spinning up a terminal server on the same host but that was rejected.  What recommendations do you have to resolve the connection issues?

    You recommendation is the only one supported by Microsoft. Connecting over a WAN is not supported nor recommended for Dynamics GP. Precisely because of what they are seeing - connection problems.
