Dear

Is there a big difference between the Worker and the Employee in AX.

because once i create them in either sections in the common, they appear in both sections

is there something specific that differenciates the worker from employee

thanks

    Hi Abdo,

The Worker is a desription for both an Employee and Contractor.

    Employee is an internal person

    Contractor is hired externally.

So the worker list page will show you both Employees and Contractors.

The Employee list page will show workers of type Employee only.

Employee is a subtype of worker - all employees are workers but not all workers are employees (some of them are contractors). Employees and contractors share most properties but have some unique ones as well. For example, you can specify compensation information for an employee but not a contractor. Compare the Employment section of the Worker form in the Human resources module to see some of the differences.

Andre and Brian thanks for the response. I now understand the difference between those two. Have a quick question :

How does AX suggest to set up workers of various employment type? For e.g. Summer Workers, Contractors, Retirees, Interns etc. besides employees. This i guess is how to set up the enterprise and personnel structure kinda question. I am sure this is a very basic question. Pardon my limited knowledge as i am just coming into AX after a 8+ years stint in SAP :-)

    Thanks !

    Hi Andre,

    A small doubt,

A worker is not listed in the employee list even if the type is specified as employee.what might be the reason?

    Hi Nandu,

    It can be many reasons.

    Check the below.

Select the worker- From the action pane- check employee history- you will see the Legal entity umber.

Go to that Legal entity and you will see the employee.

    Hi Ramit,

    Thank you for the reply.

I can see the worker in workers list but not in employee list.

In the employee history I can see the worker type as employee.(D365)

In the action pane under personnel actions -->change position ,Terminate ,change worker employment type is greyed out for me.what might me the reason ?
