Excel Report Builder error message

Posted on by 35

I have built numerous reports in Excel Report Builder.  About three months ago, when using the data connection SlaesLineItems, I started getting error messages when I tried to publish.  I cannot open the Excel version of the published report .  I can open the data connection version.

The error I receive is:

'<', hexadecimal value 0x3C, is an invalid attribute character. Line 15.postion 36.

I have looked up the error online, but could not fix the problem.

Thanks

I looked all the way through the view and did not find a < symbol anywhere.

It will run in the management studio.

It is SalesLineItems  which I think is a view that comes with Smartlist/Excel Report Builder.

I can open it in Excel using the ODC, I just cannot open it using the .xls

If you open this object in Excel Report Builder, take note of the SQL View name.

Open this view in SQL and see if there is anything around line 15 that looks like the < symbol.

Also, can you still run the SELECT portion of the SQL View in SQL Management Studio?
