Unable to Post Transfer Journal "Fiscal Period is not Open" but Period is Open

Posted on by 10

Hello Everyone,

We are running into a problem when we are trying to post a transfer journal.  We are receiving a "Fiscal Period is not Open...." error when trying to post the journal.  When we validate the journal it shows as okay but when we go to post it , we get the error.

I know this error is caused if you do not have the period open on the ledger calendar but the thing is we do have it open.  Our current month is on hold and we are still working on last months transactions since its close for us.

I am not sure why we cannot post a transfer journal today for last month when the period is open.   If i am posting a transfer journal today for last month and i have my period open for last month and for the current month its on hold would that make a difference?

When posting we change the posting date but it looks like its trying to post in the same month instead of the date that is on the journal.

    Hello AXGuru23,

Just wondering if your company make use of the module access level to restrict the access to specific modules?

Can you check this is your ledger calendar in the module access level section?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi,

Did you get the same error message or a different one?

forgot to add that they are in different months due to our fiscal calendar.  We do not have a regular calendar year.

    Hi Maria,

We had to end up opening the current period in order to post and what was weird is that it did post to the previous period but did post an entry for .01 in the current period.

    Hi,

I can see that the Date field from the Overview tab shows 8/6/2020 -> I assume it is 6th of August, based on the error message.

Could you please check if you have a voucher date on the General tab? If Yes, then what is its value?

In projects module there is this differentiation between Project date and voucher date - maybe the same is valid now in your case? And you could have the Project date in July with voucher date in August, but it's only the voucher date that is validated against the Fiscal period Open/Closed status.

If it's not the case now, then can you please share with us print screens with the Fiscal period status - closed/open?

You describe a scenario with Previous month open, while current month On hold - but it appears that your date is 8/6/2020 and the error message validates 8/25/2020 -> both are in the same month.

    Thank you,

    Maria

Right, that is my assumption. We are going to try to post a line in production and open the month to see if it will post to the current date or the selected date on the journal.

In that case, it is trying to post something using the system date. I can't think of any other option but to open the current period to allow for this posting to happen.
