Reconcile Inventory

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I need to reconcile all of our Inventory.  I used the PTSL tool and it took about 4 days.  Once it finished I ran it again it took about 4 days.  I did this in a test company that has our LIVE data.  I really need to do this in LIVE but I know once I start it no one can be in the system.  What can I do and why is it taking so long even after the 1st run?

I would be interested in your answers to the questions.

Checklinks is the bigger killer for me in regard to inventory. I can script reconciles with macros to break it into chunks, doing some of the inventory each night. Checklinks sadly does not let me do that, so that is one of the big drivers behind me archiving some of our history now.

    RE: Reconcile Inventory

    Larry,

No one can really answer this question without having pretty intimate knowledge of your environment. These probably aren't all inclusive but here are the first questions I would ask.

    1. How many years has your company been using GP?

    2. How many inventory transactions are in your database?

    3. What does the resource allocation look like on the SQL Server?

    4. Are you running the GP Client directly on the SQL Server?

A couple of things I might try so long as you are in an isolated test environment.

    1. Set the SQL Recovery Model to Bulk Logged while reconciling.

    2. Make sure SQL's Memory Usage isn't artificially capped. If this is a VM throw as much RAM at the thing as you can spare on the host.

    3. Run SQL maintenance to rebuild indexes.

    Regards,

    Kirk
