Hi All,

Can anyone explain if RFID device and Handheld device like Zebra mobile device work differently with warehouse management ?

Also, does RFID supports warehouse management and does it still work or there are plans to deprecate it? Any detailed information would be helpful on this.

Thank You

    Hi,
    RFID device:
Identification and Tracking: RFID devices use radio waves to identify and track items, products, or assets in a warehouse. Each RFID tag contains a unique identifier that can be read by RFID readers without direct line of sight, meaning items can be tracked even if they are inside a box or container.
Automation: When RFID-tagged products pass through an RFID reader, data can be automatically collected and processed, reducing the need for manual scanning or data entry.
Real-time data: RFID systems can provide real-time information about the location and status of items in the warehouse, thereby increasing the visibility and accuracy of inventory management.
Batch scanning: RFID can handle batch scanning of multiple items simultaneously, making it faster and more efficient to track large numbers of items.

Handheld devices (such as Zebra mobile devices):
Data collection and entry: Handheld devices are versatile tools for data collection, entry and communication in the warehouse. They often include barcode scanners, cameras, and other input methods.
Order picking and packing: Warehouse workers can use handheld devices to pick orders, verify order contents and pack items for shipment. These devices can be integrated with warehouse management software (WMS) for real-time order processing.
Inventory Management: Handheld devices can be used for physical inventory counts, item location checks and updating inventory records. They are particularly useful for manual tasks that require human intervention.

In summary, RFID devices are mainly used for automated, real-time tracking and identification of items in warehouses. Handheld devices, on the other hand, are used by warehouse personnel for a variety of tasks, including data collection, order fulfillment, and inventory management.

RFID was deprecated in D365 F&O a long time ago.  See the following link or screen shot for details:
