are you using the Theme panel or editing the HTML? Theme changes only apply to the out-of-box form styles.
if yourw template uses custom classes/markup the theme UI wont have those changes.
When you say “hex in HTML crashes,” can you paste the exact snippet you added and where you put it (style block vs inline)? Also: does the color revert in the designer right after Save, or only on the embedded page (could be host-page CSS overriding it)?
