Multiple deferral accounts

Has anyone done a customization to accommodate the need for multiple deferral accounts for a sale? My customer needs to assign a percentage to a revenue account and a percentage to a payables account. Essentially, they are collecting fees that have to be paid to a state agency when revenue is recognized. These fees are not technically revenue, but they are collected from the sale, similar to sales tax. Any ideas on how to handle this scenario are appreciated.

    Hi,

    Have you considered using allocation accounts?  You can set up a fixed allocation account if the percentage is fixed otherwise variable allocation account, with your revenue and payables account as distribution accounts. After that, you can set up a deferral profile to use the allocation account as revenue recognition account. When the deferral transactions will be posted, deferred amount will automatically be distributed between revenue and payables accounts.

    This works in part - it handles the deferral of the different percentages. Unfortunately, it does not push the credit (revenue) through to multiple accounts. I will do some testing to see if it is possible to use multiple allocation accounts to also split the revenue side of this.

    It worked great, though, when I set up two allocation accounts: one for the deferral and one for the revenue! Thanks so much for your help!!
