    However, for some companies, it is useful to close the inventory period and the financial period separately, because this can restrict the movement of items.

    No Inventory Periods is Not Mandatory. You can Ignore the same.
     
    In some organizations, inventory is managed on a monthly basis, with physical inventory being matched against system inventory. To prevent inventory postings in closed periods, they utilize inventory periods.
     
    In Some of the Industry, Inventory Management is Essential.
