Dear Dynamics Community:

I would like to seek help on some setup related concerns on Production module.

1.]  I am confused what is the difference between the Ledger Posting on Cost Category versus Ledger Postings on Resource Groups.

Does both forms point to the same GL accounts?  Example:  If I setup Cost Category for Painting - Direct Manufacturing type and link it to Resource Group called Paint Workers.  Pls confirm if they should point to the same GL accounts.   Or the Ledger accounts  on these 2 forms should be different?  When is Cost Category Ledger Posting used and when Resource Group posting is used?  Please advise.

    Hi Reign,

    The posting types are the same, however a parameter on the Production control parameters determines what will be used:

    Item + Category,

    Item + Resource or

    Production groups.

    What you need to use determines on the required ledger transactions in your company. If you have only one ledger account per posting type, the setting doesn't matter. If you have multiple accounts, you need to see what would be your required setting.

    Noted, thank you.  Since my setup  is whatever is my cost category code is also my resource group code (1 to 1 relationship), I will just populate the Ledger Posting under Cost Category and choose Item + Category in the parameter.
