How can you add a freight charge to an inventory transfer and also have it put an invoice to match?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

When doing an inventory transfer from one site to another there seems to be no way available to add the freight cost associated with that transfer as well as put an invoice matching in the system as well.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much for the response.  I had started to see if that option would work and your answer confirmed it.

This can be done with an In-transit transfer transaction which utilizes the combined power of the inventory and purchasing processing module to perform a site transfer. The receiving entry in purchasing does allow you to add freight, etc.

    Hi,

I'm not sure I fully understand your question.. but I think what you're trying to achieve is move inventory stock from one warehouse to another warehouse ?  I don't think that the regular inventory transfer windows was designed with adding freight charges in mind, but you could look at the in-transit transfer option, where you should be able to put additional costs against the item.. I've never used it myself, but check the user guide about the details.

    Inventory > Transactions > In–Transit Transfer Entry

    In-Transit Transfer
In-Transit Transfers are designed for multiple site distribution systems that
transfer material from one site to another. Typically, this process is used when a
transfer includes some amount of freight time between the initial origin and the
    final destination.
In these cases, a Via Site can be used to ensure users do not try and sell material
that is not currently at the destination site. The Via Site is a temporary site
between the From Site and the To Site that is used for tracking purposes.
Material entered in the Via Site indicates the material is enroute to the To Site.
Landed costs are often used with these type transfers.
