Total Cost of a BIll of Materials

Posted on by 20

hi,

I'm fairly new to Dynamics Gp. I was wondering if there is a way that you can create a BOM so that the component costs add up and are totalled in the final product?

In other words, I want to be able to set each component to a specific cost, then have each of the component costs totalled in the final product's cost.

The idea is to be able to change the cost of a component and have the final product cost adjust according to the change.

Is this possible?

Example

                                                  --- Component 1 < $2.75 >

Final Product < $10 > (total)    ---  Component 2 < $5 >

                                                     ---  Component 3 <$2.25 >

Thanks

I would look at the items involved and validate you are using the same FIFO on each.   THere is FIFO Perpetual (actual costing) and FIFO Periodic (standard costing).   It sounds as if it may be possible one of the items is FIFO Periodic.

Re: Total Cost of a BIll of Materials

Dan, we have a situation where we have a raw material that we purchase from external supplier - CONAL1 - and a second raw material - CONHI00 -  Both have current cost values entered, as well as Standard costs.  Both are set up FIFO and Sales Inventory

CONAL1 is used at 14400 units per for each 1 of 13110010 - Sales Inventory, FIFO

CONHI00 is used at 14400 units per each 1 of 12112920 - Sales Invnetory, FIFO

13110010 and 12112920 are used at 1 unit per each 14111007 - Sales Inventory, FIFO

The BOM's for each FG and Assembly are set - BUILD AS NECESSARY -

Each of the component items is set to Per Unit (Cost Type)

What is interesting is that if I build 100 of 13110010 it generates a current cost based on the single input from the CONAL1 - which is mathamatically correct.  This is repeated for the build of the 12112920 item.

However, when I assemble 100 of the 14111007 item, it completes the build, puts the 100 units into the inventory file for the location defined, however, it does not update the current cost of the item 14111007.

I built each of the BOM documents manually and have done so many times to see if changes to build as or stock seems to matter.

Any suggestions?  I can be reached directly at billc@misltd.ca if you would like to take this off the forum.

Not sure there is enough information to answer definitively, but based on what you listed, I would say Excel may be easier.   In GP, is the the Inventory BOM?  Or the Mfg BOM?   In either case, the costs will pull from the current cost field of the item and if there is a receipt on the item, it will get overridden.   So I am not sure it would work.   A possible work around would be if you used FIFO Perpetual, then used the standard cost field (free cost field as FIFO Perpetual doesn't use that field), to do what you mention above.    Make sense?
