PSTL - Inventory Item Number Combiner and Modifier not working

Posted on by 1,970

We are on GP 2010 SP3 and we use Manufacturing. I'm having some difficulty using the Item Number Combiner and Modifier. The item numbers I'm trying to change are not in BOMs and are buy items in the Engineering Item Data. When I try to use the combiner, I receive an error message:

[Microsoft] [SQL Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'on'.

When I click OK, I get this message:

The stored procedure TACalltemCombine returned the follwoign results: DBMS: 156, Microsoft Dynamics GP: 0.

I tried some of the other tools to make sure the rest of them were working, and I'm only getting this type of message when I use the Inventory Item Number Combiner and Modifier.

Any ideas/suggestions on why this is happening and how to fix it?

it is still not working for us, and I have no idea why. I did not try checking the boxes in the ODBC configuration, as that didn't seem like a good solution since they shouldn't be checked. addtionally, I spoke with one of our partner's consultants, and he agreed that they should be left unchecked. it sounds as though that didn't work for you anyway. we did try reloading the PSTLs because I found out from him that the chunk file is different now that they are free, and we had actually purchased them. that didn't make a difference either though. he was going to look into the error message and let me know if he found out anything, but i haven't heard back yet. That was only about a week ago though. if I find anything out, I will definitely post here. please do the same.

Did you ever get this to work?  We are running into the exact same issue except ours is failing on keyword

'$Phil'.  I've searched the database for '$Phil' and can't find it so I don't know what is causing it to fail.  Tried changing the ODBC as suggested above and it still failed.

Correct, they need to be unchecked on any client machine whether it be TS, Citrix or full-fat PC.

Thank you! I just read your How to Create an ODBC post. So we need to make sure that "Use ANSI quoted identifiers" and "Use ANSI nulls, paddings and warnings" as well as "Perform translation for character data" are all unchecked? Is that right?

Does it matter that we have a terminal server and use Citrix?

I've seen problems with punctuation before when the ODBC is not set up correctly. The two ANSI checkboxes and the transform on the next step need to be unchecked.

    Hi Ian,

The Item Numbers I'm trying to change have an asterisk at the end of them which is why I'm trying to change them. I'm trying to get rid of the asterisk. There are only three:

    040-000-019*

    100-000-155*

    130-000-049*

Would that cause this error? If so, is there a way around it?

    Thanks!

    Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

Do you have any punctuation in your Item Numbers?

    Ian
