How to restore CHE AxDB.bacpac into PPAC Unified Development Environment (UDE) 10.0.48?

I have created a Unified Development Environment (UDE) for D365 Finance & Operations version 10.0.48.
Source Environment:
- Cloud Hosted Environment (CHE)
- Version 10.0.48

Target Environment:
- Unified Development Environment (UDE)
- Version 10.0.48
- Developer Tools Enabled

Completed activities:
- Full build completed successfully in UDE
- AxDB.bacpac exported from CHE
- BACPAC copied to UDE

Observation:
- UDE has LocalDB only for XRef database.
- No visible AxDB database.
- No traditional SQL Server instance available.

Question:

What is the Microsoft supported approach to restore/import a CHE AxDB.bacpac into a UDE environment?
Is direct bacpac import supported?
If not, what is the recommended data migration process from CHE to UDE?

    Hi @RS-24030455-0

CHE environment will have only AxDB.bak file not the backpac file.

Additionally, we don't have any options to copy the DB from CHE to UDE environment.

    Hi @RS-24030455-0

Maybe you can try the below options but not sure whether it will be helpful for you.

Copy the bacpac file into your sandbox environment and using PPAC you can move that into UDE environment.

@Subra option is available in ssms for bacpac file.

Is there an alternative option available to restore or import a database in a D365 F&O UDE? Otherwise, please share the steps on how to import the database data into the UDE.

    Hi @RS-24030455-0

If you can get the bacpac to an LCS managed Tier 2, you can then use environment copy in Power Platform Admin Center to get the data onto your UDE.

    Hi,

There is no support to restore a bacpac from an LCS environment. Instead, as Anthony suggested, you can copy a sandbox environment created via LCS. After this, you can take additional actions, such as bringing the UDE on the correct version, and deploy latest customizations.

    Thank you for the clarification.

    Just to confirm my understanding:

    1. Direct import/restore of a CHE AxDB.bacpac into a PPAC Unified Development Environment (UDE) is not supported.

    2. The supported approach is:

    CHE/Database Backup

    → LCS Managed Sandbox

    → PPAC Environment Copy

    → UDE

    3. Is there any Microsoft documentation that describes this Sandbox → PPAC Copy → UDE process in detail?

    Thank you.

    Hi @RS-24030455-0

    1. That's correct.
    2. I wouldn't call it a supported approach, it's a suggestion to solve your specific scenario.
    3. Officially it's not supported, so MS documentation for you specific scenario is unlikely to exist. You will find docs and articles for each step though, so, CHE bacpac export, asset library import, refresh T2 from bacpac in asset library, and environment copy from T2 to UDE are all valid individually.

    Hope this helps

    Anthony

    Hi,

There is a tutorial about copying an LCS environment to a unified environment: Tutorial: Copy a Lifecycle Services environment to a unified environment - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn

You can directly copy a LCS environment to a UDE.
