Master plan versions - Planned orders. Different planversions in ReqPo table?

Good morning all,

I have a question regarding the ReqPo table (planned order table).

We have two plans, but only use one (Master):

Last few days I checked the ReqPO table, and all planned purchase orders were planned with the planversion 'Master'.

This morning however, I saw a lot of new planned purchase orders in the table. However: not in the form. I checked the ReqPo table, and saw that in fact two Plan Versions were used (two different RecIds). So I checked the ReqPlanVersion table to see why, and I found out that this table contains Two versions of the 'Master' plan, with different recids:

In the Master planning menu I found the menu item 'Plan version cleanup'. When I run this, it removes one of the two Master planning records in the ReqPlanVersion:

The one that is left matches the  RecId in the ReqPo Table )PlanVersion) and contains the records that are shown in the ReqPo form.

I do not understand however what triggers the new version of plan 'Master'. Is there someone who knows this? I would like to understand what planversion to use in my analytics.

Thanks for your explaination and help.

Kind regards, Willem.

Running Master planning creates a new version of the Plan. Whilst Master planning is running you see the old version in forms, and Master planning is creating new data for the new version. When Master planning is finishing, the new version becomes the version that you see in forms (and I assume the old version is deleted. can't remember!).

    Hi Guy,

Ok that's clear. But I do not understand why sometimes there are more than one planningsversion in the reqpo table. and how D365 knows which one is obsolete.

Maybe the extra planningsversion occurs when masterplanning has an error and restarts or something?

    Thanks for your clarification.

Goran, in case you still need it..

    select Plans.NAME,*
    from REQPLAN Plans
    left join REQPLANVERSION Versions
        on Plans.REQPLANID = Versions.REQPLANID
