Project Accounting - Changing Fee ID in a Project

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Our client, on GP 2016, is trying to change the retainer fee on a project. Cards>Project>Project. Click on the Fees button. Under the Retainer Fees section, use the lookup to find another retainer Fee ID. Click on Select. The message comes up "You cannot modify this Fee ID". I tried changing the project status to estimate but I still get the message (logged in as the sa user). How do you change Fee on a project?

    Hi Sean,

I don't believe you can change the Retainer Fees once they were added to a project.. Amounts may already have been accounted for (Check table PA00402) and there is only 1 Retainer and Retention fees allowed per project. You can add multiple Project & Service fees though..

If this was setup by mistake, you might be able to change the Retainer fees from the back-end by updating the involved tables (do a search, but I believe that would be about 3-4 tables in the company DB).

Test the changes in an updated TEST company first before applying this to your LIVE data.

    PS:

I actually tested the scenario in my Fabrikam company, and though you cannot replace an existing Retainer fee, you can clear the current Fees ID and there you'll be prompted by GP with a warning and confirmation to continue:

Once the Fee ID is cleared, you can save the project, then go back and re-add a different Retainer Fee. This works and tables are updated accordingly.

I still would try the scenario out in a TEST company first and run various reports to check the outcome.
