Hi all,

Our production is installled on windows server 2012 r2 server.

i have few queries as mainstream support for windows will be close by sept 18 1. will our client not be able to work as usual with ax 2012 if windows server is not changed from windows server 2008 r2 before sept 18.

2. If client decide to upgrade the windows which one will be good windows server for ax 2012

3. Once we change the windows server what steps we need to perform in order to run our ax on new version of windows.

Please advise as i am new to this process.

Thanks

Shri

    1. I don't understand. Where is Windows server 2008 R2 used? In your message you say that the production environment is installed on Windows server 2012 R2. Anyway you should definetely not use unsupported OS versions in production environment. Windows Server 2008 servers will continue running, but Microsoft is not releasing any security patches anymore, making the servers vulnerable to attacks.

    2. You should pick a version that has at least equally long support lifecycle as your AX2012 version. The support of Windows 2012 R2 will end in October 2023. Dynamics AX 2012 R3 support ends in the same time. Also Windows Server 2016 is supported with AX2012 (see Dynamics AX 2012 system requirements document for details), so you might use that, too.

    3. You need to install the AX components on the new servers. Then you need to perform a cutover: stop the current environment. Copy the database to the new environment and start using the new environment.
