Backing up a Visual Studio report

ReportReport

Hello. I've got a newbie question...

I'm going to start making changes to what is a rather complex report for me (WMSBillOfLading). I'd like to take a snapshot at the beginning so i can get back to square one if necessary. What is the most reliable and efficient option in taking the report backup, and in case it's not so obvious, how about the restore steps? Thanks very much in advance!

    Hi

I think the best way ( fast & easy) is export the SSRS report as XPO.

So, if you have to restore is enough to import the XPO and deploy on SSRS the report.

    Hi Denis,

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear but I'm going to make changes to the VS project WMSBillOfLadingReport. If I were to only export the SSRS report, I would still lose the original VS project once I begin making changes, no? I would rather be able to back up the VS project, then build and deploy to AX as needed. Thank you.

    Hi

You can backup also the Visual Studio project from AOT.

So, you can create an AX Project and include both Visual Studio project and the SSRS Report.

Create the XPO and if needed import again.

RE: Backing up a Visual Studio report

    Hi Kbanh,

From my experience I never actually made any changes to the VS project when I modify SSRS reports. All the changes I've made belongs to the report object. You can verify that when you make changes.

So you only have to backup the report object.

Also, integrating source control (TFS or MorphX VCS) is another option that would help you keep copies of working objects. It takes abit of setup but well worth it if you find the additional capabilities useful.

    Regards,

    Dominic
