I appreciate this is a newb question, but perhaps that can be overlooked. Support for GP2010 will end next year. Will there be a year end update available next year, or do those updates stop inline with the end of support?

Support for GP 2010 does not end next year. Mainstream support ends next year but then it will be on extended support. This means that there will be no hotfixes, SP's, year end updates or any fixes for GP 2010 however you can still receive support for issues.
