Hi, I plan to have a suffix number for each case, for example, if case number is existed, I want to add suffix incremental number like "-001","-002", it seems like I have to create another entity to maintain this, or any new suggestions?

You can probably just select current max number for all the cases with that case number. I'm not sure how you were planning to set this up, though.. Which number will be entered manually, which number will be generated, where will you combine both, etc..

    Hi, Alex,

the case number and suffix number will be auto generated. but suffix will be associated with case number, it means one case number could have multiple suffix.  I am thinking to have en entity to record difference case number and max suffix for each.

You can do that, or, you  might, for example, create two fields on the case (case number and suffix number), then you might query CRM (in a plugin?) for the max suffix number among all the cases with the same case number, increment it, and put it into the case number for the case being created. Although, if you delete a case, you may end up with a new case getting the same suffix that had been used before. Sometimes it also makes sense, though.

Or you might use the original case number field - just select a case with the max case number where case number starts with the case number being entered, then extract suffix from there, increment by one.. etc

    Hi!

In this case out-of-box autonumberig doesn't have so many customization options. But you always can create your own solution. Something like described here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/custom-auto-numbering-6-quick-steps-ms-dynamics-crm-eran-fuks  If you don't like wf, you can create plugin on Case Create. But you still have to manage your autonumbering in custom configuration entity.

    Hope this helps
