Home page error - Connect "navigation to the webpage was canceled"

My client is running GP 2013.  They want to be able to use Connect on the Home Page to follow when Payroll Tax Updates become available.  When Connect is shown on the home page (all computers in the office) we get an error that the navigation was canceled.  If I click on Refresh Page I get the following message:

This page can’t be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://online.dynamics.com again. If this error persists, it is possible that this site uses an unsupported protocol or cipher suite such as RC4 (link for the details), which is not considered secure. Please contact your site administrator.

Change settings button is available.

If I go to the Internet Options on this PC, I find that the TLS versions are all turned on as requested. If I click on the Change Settings button I get a script error:

Line 206, Char 1, Error: Unable to get property 'msLaunchInternetOptions' of undefined or null reference, Code: 0
URL: res://leframe.dll/httpErrorPagesScripts.js

Has anyone run into this issue?  I am wondering if it is a security setting or blocked webpage that the client might have set but I'm not sure of the exact web address that they would need to unblock to allow access for the client.

Did you check into the unsupported RC4 cypher suite link? support.microsoft.com/.../rc4-cipher-is-no-longer-supported-in-internet-explorer-11-or-microsoft

If you are using IE11 or Edge you need to apply a patch.

Also, please bear in mind that the Connect site has been a hit or miss over the past few months - server maintenance is what I keep hearing, but at this point I don't know what to make of it.

    Hello Sheila,

It isn't specific to your environment, I can re-create this same issue as well, and I have those TLS settings enabled also.

I checked and it appears we've been having an issue with the Connect functionality since Tuesday and it is currently being worked on, so hopefully they'll have it back up and running soon.

    Thank you,

This has been a long running saga of the connect page not working from what was I think about September last year it has been having problems. I've a blog post following this issue that can be found here:

The servers that the Connect webpage runs off is being worked on, currently this won't work for anyone until the 'Connect' team gets the issues resolved.

If I hear anything about them being back up and running, I'll update this Forum and let everyone know, once I confirm it working myself.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause......

    Thanks

Good to know it is in hand.

Would be great if you could update the thread when resolved.

Yes, I'll leave this forum open so I can update it when I hear anything about Connect being resolved and working, or get any types of update on it.

Thank you so much Derek.  I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Is it also possible that the client needs to allow/trust a certain web address (URL)?  I have been trying to determine what the connect URL is so that I can give that to him.  Maybe when you come back with news that this issue is fixed you can also give me the URL.

    Thanks for everything.

    Sheila

    HI Sheila,

no particular site trusting is required.. this problem is server side related.. as simple as that. Until Microsoft has fixed the web site, it's going to work randomly.. or not. LIke today :-)

Correct. The servers for Connect are still being worked on and until that is completed, Connect on the GP home page will work sporadically, if at all.

I'll try to see if I can get an update on this and let everyone know....

    Thanks

It was confirmed today by Terry Heley from Microsoft that nobody told them apparently that the server was going to be shut down (don't know if this is related to the GDPR issue with the MS-Connect server itself).

They are looking to get something else setup to replace that missing piece, because the information that could be posted up there was very valuable to all the customers and a very effective channel to communicate infos about new releases & upcoming events.
